About

Deborah Hewson is a visual artist based in Dublin. The diversity of her practice reflects her interest in art, architecture and science. As a sculptor, she expresses herself through 3D forms and installations using everyday materials. She connects the various elements of her work using a broad range of mediums including video, photography and performance.

Researching ideas around unconscious triggers and happenings that open up new ways of being in the world underpins her practice. Her work is informed by observing the natural and built environment, walking and the everyday experience.

Collaboration is a key element of her practice. In 2015, she was selected to participate in Paper Makers, an art and science collaborative project, in conjunction with the University of Glasgow. She also exhibits regularly with INEX – an artist collective formed while studying at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) Dublin.

In 2014, she was awarded a BA (Hons) in Fine Art by the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) Dublin. In 2020, she completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Creative and Cultural Entrepreneurship at Trinity College (TCD) Dublin. She also holds a Diploma in Architectural Technology awarded by the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT). In 2020, she was awarded the Loughshinny Boathouse Artists Studio Residency by Fingal County Council.
